Whats the deal with ferro rods? They're about as bushcrafty as a wart on the thumb.
You want bushcraft Fire? Friction is the way to go there's several different methods, Hand drill, Bow drill or Fire plough, heck flint and steel at a pinch but ferro rod??? Might as well take a decent lighter or strike anywhere matches imho.
As a survival aid I can see the use but in all honesty it should be a secondry not a primary source imo. If I'm in a survival situation and I need a fire, then I want fire there then and no messing no playing silly sods flick "instant flame".
Maybe I'm missing the point and someone can put me straight?
